Planning life. Yes, sometimes we think we can do that! Life happens, shit happens, things change and we need to be open to modifying our life path. My life path is about to be altered a bit for the good.
I have been working on a degree in Health and Wellness Management. I already have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s in Business. I thought, since I LOVE the field of health and wellness, that this would be a good fit. It is not. Unfortunately, the further I come in my life, the less traditional academics matter to me. I want real learning, not writing a paper on a topic that has no meaning to me. Not researching wellness organizations that I have no interest in or reading a book that I feel is wasting 10 hours of my life I can never get back. There are so many good books out there, why am I wasting my time reading and reflecting on one that totally goes against my ideals and principles?
So, I will discontinue this path at the end of this semester and move on to new territory. Those who know me, know that I can be a bit scattered at times. Personally, I feel as if it is more letting go of things that don’t work, and moving on with life. There are a few things that have been constants in my life for years, that I wish to pursue in a deeper and more authentic way.
YOGA is a passion. I need to expand and learn more. I have been working on putting together a 200 hour training. I am fitting it to the yoga alliance standards, but with more of an independent slant. I will register with Yoga Alliance for those who wish to pursue teaching in that sense. I will offer a separate track for those who are looking for a more independent study, who wish to expand their knowledge of all 8 limbs of yoga, who are interested in learning more about themselves, their body, mind, and spirituality.
COOKING is a passion. I will expand on that as this year goes on. A cookbook, a new, more seasonal menu at the restaurant and expanded hours for this coming season are all in the works. The restaurant was originally meant to be a “build and flip”, but I am so in love with what I do there, that I can’t see it going away anytime soon. I have been cooking since I was a little girl. I have a new appreciation for eating good food that not only nourishes the body but is cooked with love and intention to also nourish the soul.
There are some things that will need to change as this year progresses. I will finish the CPA (certified public accounting) exam, as I have one section left to pass. It is on my bucket list of things to do before I turn 50. I will only do the accounting for non-profit organizations, small ones that give me the “warm fuzzies” as I like to say. Feel good accounting is the only thing I can do now. I have to honor my authentic self and not do work that I don’t feel is worthwhile or honest.
So 2014 will bring some changes. I planned life, now that plan changes a bit. Lots of yoga and healthy cooking. Lots of walking, meditating and reflecting on life. Lots of loving my husband, children and grandchildren. I foresee another blog post soon….
Namaste,
Jen
